Alternative Image Making Project

For this project we had to create images of simple, recognisable objects such as whisks, forks, spoons, bottles without using conventional drawing methods. We were encouraged to create images or prints or marks of our object through natural processes such as baking and washing. There were also other techniques such as negative spacing, spraying, outlining.

I decided to use a key as my object and experimented with the different ways in which I could make/ create an alternative image of that object. I pressed the key against bread to make a print and placed the key on the kitchen worktop and then covered the space with flour- I then removed the key and this made an alternative image of the key.

I found that the best technique to create an alternative image was to heat the key by placing it in a roaring flame using tongues and then printing the shape onto the skin of different fruits and vegetables. The key then burnt its shape and outline onto the medium- thus leaving an alternative image.
